Why it matters to you
Greater Houston floods repeatedly; Hurricane Harvey in 2017 put water into homes across the Cypress Creek watershed around Spring and throughout Harris County. Equipment that looks fine after the water recedes can fail dangerously when switched on, and outdoor units on low pads and air handlers or furnaces in garages or ground-floor closets are the most exposed.
Practical guidance
Never turn on, reset, or test flood-soaked HVAC equipment yourself, and stay away from wet electrical equipment; if you smell gas, leave the home and call your gas utility. Have a licensed HVAC technician, and a licensed electrician where needed, inspect everything before use, and photograph the damage and water line for your insurer before anything is removed.
